Academia-Industry Ties Vital for Islamic Banking Growth: Zubair Mughal
(September 22 2025 (Dubai – UAE)): AlHuda Centre of Islamic Banking and Economics (CIBE) continued its global mission to promote Islamic finance with a landmark knowledge-sharing initiative in Azerbaijan. Mr. Muhammad Zubair, Chief Executive Officer of AlHuda CIBE – UAE, delivered two highly impactful lectures on the Global Development of Islamic Banking & Finance at two prestigious institutions in Baku: Western Caspian University and Khazar University.
The first lecture was hosted at Western Caspian University, where Mr. Zubair addressed faculty members, students, and finance professionals on the evolution of Islamic finance globally, its current trajectory, and the significant potential it holds for emerging markets such as Azerbaijan. He highlighted how Islamic banking and finance can play a pivotal role in fostering inclusive growth, ensuring financial stability, and contributing to sustainable economic development.
The second session was held at Khazar University, where Mr. Zubair engaged with a diverse audience, including academicians, researchers, policymakers, and industry practitioners. His presentation emphasized the adaptability of Islamic finance instruments like Sukuk, Takaful, and Islamic microfinance, which can support Azerbaijan’s socio-economic transformation and enhance financial inclusion.
Speaking at both universities, Mr. Zubair stated: “Islamic finance is not just an alternative financial system but a comprehensive model built on ethical values, social justice, and sustainability. Azerbaijan has great potential to integrate Shariah-compliant solutions into its financial framework, thereby attracting global investors and offering inclusive opportunities for its citizens.”
The sessions generated interactive discussions, with students and professionals showing deep interest in how Islamic banking can be customized to Azerbaijan’s context. Both universities praised the initiative as a valuable contribution toward building awareness and capacity in the field of Islamic finance.
